What a winter so far. Bomb cyclone storms complete with epic tides and snow day after snow day, all followed by weather that feels like spring break. Just another January in Cohasset.

Now that 2017 is a thing of the past, it’s time to look ahead to a new year filled with fresh promise and opportunity. At the CEF, we wrapped up 2017 by presenting a check to the school committee to fund over $20,000 in new grants for Osgood, Deer Hill and the Middle High School. We were so excited by the breadth of ideas brought forward by our creative and motivated teachers. For example, at Deer Hill, a mini-golf program that enables students to design their own course using math skills and collaborative teamwork will now be part of the physical education program. Middle High School students will soon have fun with Google Expeditions virtual reality kits that will augment their history, English, science, art, and music curriculum.  It’s programs like these that create memorable and meaningful experiences for our students every day.

While we kicked off our annual campaign in 2017, our fundraising is still in full swing moving into 2018. On February 7 and 8, we will hold our fourth annual student-run CEF phonathon. This is always an energizing experience—the kids seem to have fun with it and it gives our fundraising a needed boost. So, if you are home those evenings in February, please “answer the call” and consider a gift to the CEF!

We had a cozy joint event with Perch 143 in January and we hope to hold more events like this in partnership with our local business owners. It’s a nice way to get out and build some community spirit by shopping or dining, all while supporting our schools.

Wishing you a happy and healthy new year free of resistant-strain flus and sub-arctic temperatures.  Looking forward to seeing you at a CEF event soon!
